do you ever get scared of storms? or ever did? i sure do, they are loud, unpredictable and frankly annoying. apart from the fact that there is lightning, which if it hits you directly will kill you, and even a non direct hit can still kill you if not send youflying through the air only to be severly injured anyways.

yes there is only a very little chance you will get hit by lightning.take a look at this.... (if your smart enough)

1. ASSUME -

4 CG flashes/km²/yr/average
House is 10 X 20 m² = 1200 m²
Direct strike to house when lightning hits within 10 m
Predicted strike (1200 X4)/1 000 000 =
4.8 X 10 ^-3 or once ea. 200 years
Therefore - 1 out of 200 house will be struck per year.

2. ASSUME -

USA population = 280,000,000
1000 lightning victims/year/average
Odds = 1 : 280,000 of being struck by lightning

now that is the americans, but we can easily replace to population with australias 25 million or so and then change the lightning victims to 350 approx. and you will still have a 1 : 71428 chance of being hit. dont be alarmed though it is very unlikely unless your waving your mobile around under a very tall tree, or likewise holding a large metal rod on top of woolworths or something  =P

so yea, if your afraid of lightning, id say its okay, i sure am, i mean the odds say it all, and while theres still ANY chance of it happening, it could still happen  =/
